Air France confirms that, at the request of Russian air traffic control, flight AF111 from Shanghai to Paris on 26 March 2014 had to circle for 45 minutes before entering Russian airspace and continuing on to Paris (closure of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan  airspace following the launch of the Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome).

To maintain an adequate level of fuel on arrival in line with regulations, the crew decided to make an additional fuel stop in Hamburg, Germany (station where Air France staff are present) before returning to Paris where the plane landed at 8:56 am.

An announcement was made on board by the crew to inform customers.
Air France sincerely regrets the inconvenience and delay caused to its customers and reiterates that its sole priority is to ensure the safety of its passengers.
