Air France confirms that flight AF 217 from Mumbai to Paris-Charles de Gaulle on 11 March 2013 returned to Mumbai after approximately 30 minutes flight time.

After having detected an engine dysfunction, the crew took the decision, in line with aircraft manufacturer and company procedures, to reduce the power of one of the engines and to fly back to Mumbai for further technical checks.

The aircraft landed normally at 4:45 am and all passengers and crew have been accommodated in hotels. Air France staff is taking all possible measures to find them alternative travel arrangements to their final destinations.

In the meantime, technical checks will be performed on the aircraft and Air France has sent a larger aircraft to Mumbai (AF218) to operate the return BOM-CDG flight on 12 March.

According to the information available, the object found during the initial checks has absolutely nothing to do with the engine dysfunction.
