A more rationalized organization of airspace

Another avenue for reducing CO2 production is the reform of European air traffic management: to minimize delays and shorten aviation routes and arrival and departure paths.  This would reduce flight times and associated emissions.

According to IATA, the inefficiency of air traffic management increases European flight distances by 12%.

In 2007 for example, airlines reduced their CO2 emissions by 6 million tons, thanks to the shortening of 350 air routes and the optimization of procedures.

This is why Air France takes an active part in the European project SESAR, aimed at designing the future European air traffic control system.
