A modern fleet enables the AIR FRANCE KLM Group to:
- offer greater comfort to its passengers,
- achieve substantial fuel savings,
- meet its commitments in terms of Sustainable development by limiting greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution for local residents.
Air France has therefore decided to speed up the replacement of its thirteen Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft and five 747-400 freighters. These aircraft will be replaced by Boeing 777-300 ER passenger aircraft of a similar capacity and configuration, and by Boeing 777 freighters.
In this way, Air France will reduce the number of aircraft types in its long-haul fleet from four to three (330/340, 777-200/300, A380), which will further save on fuel.
At the same time, Air France has increased the number of firm orders for the Airbus A380 to twelve, by exercising two options.
Air France will also be ordering thirty latest-generation Airbus A320/321s (twelve from the lessor and eighteen from the manufacturer). These aircraft will replace some twenty older versions of the A320. Air France will thus be able to meet its growing needs.
Ongoing investment in fleet modernization (in billions of euros)
