By grouping medium-haul traffic flows to feed a long-haul flight, the Hub system can be compared to car pooling. For example, a passenger departing from Marseille and another passenger departing from Stockholm travel together between Paris and New York.  

As a result, fewer flights are needed to route the same number of passengers, with positive effects on the environment.
