After having tested it for six months on the Paris-Amsterdam-Paris route and following its initial launch in February on La Navette flights, Air France is now extending its mobile boarding pass service to almost all short and medium-haul flights, except on flights to the UK.
• What is it?
The mobile boarding pass takes the form of an SMS, MMS or e-mail and contains all the same information as on a traditional boarding card (passenger's name, boarding time, boarding gate, departure time, seat number and travel class).
• How does it work? > see the video
However the reservation has been made, after having checked in online at http://mobile.airfrance.com/
up to 30 hours before the latest check-in time), passengers are sent their boarding pass with a secure bar-code on their mobile phone via SMS or MMS on normal mobile phones or via e-mail on phones equipped with Internet access (smartphones).
At the airport, passengers show their mobile phone with their boarding pass to:
• check in any bags at the baggage drop-off counter using bar-code screening,
• pass through security by showing their phone,
• access the lounge for those who are eligible by showing their phone,
• use duty free shops at Amsterdam airport,
• board at the gate using bar-code screening,
• board the aircraft by showing their phone to the crew.
