For Cannes Film Festival, cinema takes to the skies with Air France!

Published on - May 09th, 2019

Once again this year, Air France is partner and official carrier of the Cannes Film Festival, whose 72nd edition is taking place from May 14 to 25, 2019. On this occasion, the company will be celebrating 39 years of partnering the biggest movie fest in the world.

In-flight film festival

Air France adapts its cinematographic production to offer passengers, on board all its long-haul flights, a selection of movies that have won prizes at previous editions of the Cannes Film Festival. In May, they will notably be able to watch Capharnaüm by Nadine Labaki (2018), Sofia by Meryem Benm’Barek (2018), and Hyènes by Djibril Diop Mambéty (1992).

Action!

The company proudly organized the film shoot for Sibyl, directed by Justine Triet with two of the film’s actresses Virginie Efira and Adèle Exarchopoulos, screened in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival!  The film will be screened on May 24, 2019 on the Croisette, at the same time as its official release in cinemas.

A love story

Ever since the first movie shown – An American in Paris – on board a Constellation flying from New York to Paris in 1951, and subsequently in May 1966 when Louis Malle’s Viva Maria! marked the introduction of two films in its long-haul flight programme, cinema has been part of Air France’s DNA, and is now a key part of the travel experience.

As the first European airline to offer digital video to all its passengers, the company currently offers up to 1,400 hours of on-demand video, in 12 languages on 38,000 individual screens, and a rich and diverse programme on its latest-generation in-flight entertainment systems. Its carefully selected offer is adapted to the tastes and cultures of all its customers, and this vast selection of films is enhanced by feature films broadcast in their original version.

Air France Studio

On board or at the foot of an airplane on the tarmac, in an airport lounge, at a check-in counter or in a vast hangar, Air France Studio provides the film, fashion and media worlds a unique environment for film shoots. Air France Studio also supplies film sets with Air France accessories, products and vehicles and accompanies the teams behind the scenes – from the organization to the promotion of audiovisual achievements – and takes care of the transport of film crews and equipment.

Air France wishes all movie lovers a pleasant trip!
