On June 21, 1998, Air France inaugurated the Paris-Charles de Gaulle – Havana José-Martí service. The Caribbean Island was opening up as never before.
A few months earlier, it had welcomed a French Concorde chartered by a group of British Businessmen who wanted to visit the island. Although long isolated, Cuba quickly found its spot on the world Tourism map. And Air France did its bit. Flooding in from all over Europe, passengers flocked to the CDG Hub, where they boarded one of our Boeing 747-400s. Their destination was the José-Martí international airport in Havana and its brand-new Terminal 3. Then Cuba was revealed, with its 700 km of lovely beaches, its 1,600 islands, and its timeless atmosphere... Given its huge success, the flight frequency was stepped up almost immediately. From weekly at the outset, the service became a daily one in 2001! Since that time, the Boeing 777-300ER has replaced the venerable B 747-400s. The success of the service has never flagged. Today, Air France still operates daily flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to the colourful Cuban capital! And if we add in KLM’s five weekly flights from Amsterdam-Schiphol airport to Havana, the Air France-KLM group comes out as the European market leader for the destination.
