Air France celebrates 70 years of presence in French Guyana
Seventy years ago, Air France launched its first flights to French Guiana. Today, the company is continuing to invest for its customers within the framework of its move upmarket.
All the latest long-haul travel cabins and the new dishes in Business and Premium Economy signed by famous chef Babette de Rozières all contribute to make the trip to Cayenne a unique experience.
THE VERY LATEST LONG-HAUL TRAVEL CABINS TO CAYENNE
Since 8 February 2017, the company's customers have been enjoying the latest long-haul cabins on flights to Cayenne. Air France operates up to 7 weekly services between Paris-Orly and Cayenne by Boeing 777 equipped with a genuine cocoon in the sky in the Business cabin and completely redesigned seats in the Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

AF852: leaves Paris-Orly at 10:15, arrives in Cayenne at 15:15; AF853: leaves Cayenne at 18:45, arrives at Paris-Orly at 7:10.
BABETTE DE ROZIÈRES SIGNS DISHES IN THE BUSINESS AND PREMIUM ECONOMY CABINS
To continue to surprise its customers while confirming its role as ambassador of fine French dining in the sky, from 1 March 2017 until February 2018, the famous chef Babette de Rozieres will create the creole dish on the menu in Air France's Business and Premium Economy cabins. Three dishes renewed every month will be available on flights from Cayenne, Pointe à Pitre and Fort de France to Paris and on board flights on the Caribbean regional network from Cayenne to Fort de France.
The following dishes created by Babette de Rozières will be on the menu in Business and Premium Economy:
- Fillet of cod marinated in lime, saffron cream sauce, plantain risotto on the menu in March, June, September and December 2017;
- Caramelized chicken fricassee, sweet spicy sauce, duchess of breadfruit with turmeric on the menu in April, July, October 2017 and January 2018;
- Free-range chicken leg, curry sauce, crunchy vegetable confits and basmati rice on the menu in May, August, November 2017 and February 2018.
PARIS - CAYENNE, 70 YEARS OF HISTORY
In 1947, Air France launched services between Paris and Fort de France (Martinique), extended on to Pointe à Pitre (Guadeloupe), Colombia and Cayenne. For the first time, Guyana was linked to Metropolitan France. Every other Thursday evening, passengers took the train from Paris. From Bordeaux, they were taken to the seaplane base in Biscarosse, from where a Laté 631 took off in the middle of the night. After a stopover in Port-Etienne, now known as Nouadhibou in Mauritania, they landed in Fort de France on Saturday morning. The last leg was operated by Catalina amphibious aircraft. The passengers finally arrived in Cayenne on Sunday.
MORE CHOICE AND FREQUENCIES ON AIR FRANCE'S REGIONAL CARIBBEAN NETWORK
And for ever more choice, Air France connects Pointe à Pitre, Fort de France, Cayenne, Port au Prince and Miami thanks to its regional network in the Caribbean. Two Airbus A320s and crews dedicated to this network operate more than 60 flights a week between these different economic centres of the region. On board these two aircraft, Air France customers also benefit from the comfort of the latest medium-haul travel cabins. With an additional 10 seats, this new aircraft with 168 seats (12 in Business and 156 in Economy) increases capacity by 6%.
In addition, Air France offers 9 new destinations from Pointe à Pitre and Fort-de-France: St. Lucia, San Juan, Santo Domingo, St. Martin Grand Case, Sint Maarten Juliana, St. Barthelemy, Dominica and Barbados, operated on a code-share basis with Air Antilles. With its partner Winair, Air France customers also have access to 7 destinations in the Caribbean via Saint Martin: St. Barthelemy, Dominica, Tortola, Saba, Saint Eustache, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Antigua.
