“Illuminart” Environmental education workshops in the hospital setting

Art dans la Cité aims to install permanent works of art in hospitals and support all healthcare establishments that would like to contribute to the well-being of their young patients and teams by giving them access to beauty, emotions and new aesthetic and sensory experiences. Under the “Illuminart” project supported by the Air France Foundation since 2013, large-format digital works of art are projected in patient rooms and treatment rooms. This has a proven positive impact on wellness and provides access to culture and education throughout hospitals, all year round. Art and environmental education workshops are held in the paediatric department at the Pau University Hospital Centre, in partnership with two nature reserves that are home to exceptional wildlife and plants. Based on children’s drawings, as well as paintings and sculptures, a digital work of art has been created and shown in all departments that feature “Illuminart”. This educates and mobilises other children on this environmental theme. The project is being expanded to five other University Hospital Centres in France and helps to improve the care pathway for thousands of young patients.
