Sports therapy for teenagers with cancer at the Saint-Louis hospital.
In France, cancer affects an average of 450 teenagers aged between 15 and 19 every year. CAMI Sport & Cancer is striving to develop therapeutic physical activity programmes to enable young patients to be cared for to limit the undesirable effects of treatment and confinement in hospital. Prolonged bed rest has many physical and psychological consequences. Yet for many years now, scientific trials have shown that regular, sustained exercise can reduce muscle loss and independence, as well as impairing sleep, fatigue, anxiety, stress, pain and isolation. Thanks to the support of the Air France Foundation, 40 teenagers suffering from cancer will receive 2 individual and/or group sessions a week of personalised sports therapy, depending on their state of health. These sessions are given by a sports professional trained in the association's protocol.
