Children in serious difficulties

India

Support and protection of children and young people living in the streets in New Delhi.

The vocation of Chaya France is to protect, educate, empower and make a lasting difference to the lives of children at risk in India through access to accommodation in a safe and protective environment and a prevention programme. It supports the TARA House programmes run locally by the Indian NGO ONYVA, providing children and young people living in the streets of New Delhi shelter and care. It is estimated that there are over 70,000 street children in the Indian capital. TARA accommodates these vulnerable minors exposed to abuse and violence within its three homes and helps them to rebuild their lives. Thanks to the Foundation’s support, these children and young people benefit from a safe environment and access to schooling. The young adults who have grown up in the homes can go on to university or vocational training and gradually become independent young adults with the support of social workers.
