“Solarsac”, school bags with a solar bulb for pupils in rural areas
The National Council of the Associations of Young Guineans in France coordinates the activities of associations of young Guineans in France. In Guinea, rural areas are heavily affected by a lack of child education and early school leaving. Teachers have little or no training, the facilities lack water and electricity, schools are sometimes a long way from children’s homes, classes are overcrowded and school equipment is lacking. With the support of the Air France Foundation since 2014, the CNJGF aims to reduce inequalities by combating early school leaving. As such, 1,200 new pupils are given school bags fitted with a bulb containing a battery that can be recharged using solar power, giving the children a light that lasts for more than three hours when it gets dark.
