Education of children at the Raoul et Madeleine Follereau de Pobé leprosy and Buruli ulcer screening and treatment centre
A school bursary project was initiated in 2020 due to the difficult situation that some children experience even before they are hospitalised. Some need to escape forced marriage, while others are forced to undertake domestic work and others still are malnourished. A partnership with two local schools that have boarders was set up. With the support of the Air France Foundation since 2021, the health centre works to extend the education of children aged between 5 and 15. Without this initiative, some children who have recovered from Buruli ulcer would be unable to return to school due to insufficient financial means. To optimise this goal of education for all, a refresher school has been set up within the treatment centre.
