Continued social support and vocational counselling for teenagers in the favelas of São Paulo
The Foundation Gol de Letra works to improve the social integration of children and young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods. It has been recognized as a model organization by Unesco since 2001. The multi-disciplinary programme supported by the Air France Foundation aims to train and support young people who are facing major difficulties preparing for their future professional lives, by developing their interaction skills, their sense of ethics, respect and diversity, and by encouraging them to reflect on the world of work. It also includes an “Artistic expression” component (audiovisual, dance, graffiti, theatre), a “life skills project” tutoring component, and preparation for the ENEM (university entrance test). It is essential to pursue the actions already underway in the Vila Albertina favela. The association has observed improved vulnerability indicators after 25 years of action. In a city where major economic and social inequalities persist, dedicated spaces conducive to exchange and learning are essential if young people are to escape the cycles of violence that surround them.
