Children in difficulties

Madagascar

Reconstruction of the Sahofika school (Centre region)

The Helpsimus association aims to protect the Greater Bamboo Lemur in Madagascar through the “Bamboo Lemur” programme, which includes scientific monitoring of the species, the protection of its habitat, help for the development of riverside villages and funding for child education. Teaching staff and the heads of villages take environmental education training. Families bear a significant proportion of the cost of educating their children. Of the five schools supported by the association, the school in Sahofika caters to 240 children in a permanent building and two wooden buildings. The project in progress with the backing of the Air France Foundation has since 2019 aimed to improve the infrastructure by renovating the main building and constructing two new permanent classrooms, where the “Bamboo Lemur” programme will be implemented. The aim is also to improve the quality of education.
