Children and young people in serious difficulties
St. Martin
Raising awareness of the heritage, flora and fauna, ecology and natural heritage of the island of Saint Martin.
The association carries out its educational mission by creating, publishing and distributing books, running a free museum and making short films. It also runs awareness-raising campaigns in schools on the island, which is divided into two parts: French and Dutch. Mainly English-speaking, the natives share the same culture, nature and heritage. It is in this context that a major educational issue is at stake for many pupils who are finding it difficult to learn to read, especially when education is provided in a language other than that spoken at home. As access to information on the island is also inadequate, the project aims to develop basic learning while engaging young people in local issues around three educational programmes on the nature and heritage of Saint Martin: the creation and distribution of 7,735 multilingual books, the organisation of school visits to the ‘Amuseum Naturalis’ museum, and the printing of 112 large banners to raise awareness in schools and associations across the island.
