Children and young people in serious difficulties

Vietnam

Educational support for over 200 disadvantaged children in a rural area in South Vietnam.

The Mai Nha Children Foundation seeks to provide long-term, quality care for 20 orphans and abandoned children and educational support for disadvantaged children and young people from Thien Nghiep village in the south of Vietnam, located more than 200km from the capital and 7km from the sea. The distance from the sea makes it impossible for the 7,000 village inhabitants to make a living from fishing, and who are living in extreme poverty. At the beginning of 2012, Mai Nha Children obtained the authorizations to create an orphanage and a nursery school, and offer at least 80 academic scholarships to the village children. Thanks to the Air France Foundation’s renewed support, the children of the orphanage can continue to live in Mai Nha until they become independent, at around the age of 20. The funding will also finance study grants for 40 underprivileged children in the village. Mai Nha will support these children throughout their schooling (primary, secondary, high school and higher education). Lastly, 120 children from the village will be enrolled at the Mai Nha nursery school.
