Ecological transformation of territories through education in schools in Abidjan.
Waste management is one of the biggest problems facing African cities. Lack of sorting at source, illegal dumping and waste dumped in communal sanitation facilities lead to flooding and the proliferation of disease. The Moi Jeu Tri educational programme, which began in 2021 in 2 towns in Abidjan, is helping to bring about an ecological transformation of the Ivorian territories. The grant from the Air France Foundation will help fund educational programmes in schools in 2 new towns, Port Bouët and Grand Bassam. It will promote environmental awareness and education, the introduction of selective sorting for the bio-waste programme and the creation of vegetable gardens in schools. This will feed the sorting and recycling process into the local ecosystem. The overall impact of the project, which will be carried out in schools across the country, is expected to reach 60 schools and 30,000 students.
