Children and young people in serious difficulties
Senegal
Introductory circus workshops with social and therapeutic benefits.
Founded by Modou Touré, a former Dakar street kid turned professional circus performer, the association offers children the chance to attend the first social circus school in Senegal. The ‘Yakaar’ (hope in Wolof) project uses the art of the circus as a lever for social intervention. The aim is to make a lasting impact on the most vulnerable children by optimising their ability to create social links, boosting their self-esteem, their development and their integration into the world of work. The aim is also to ensure that their basic rights are respected. Weekly training workshops are offered in partner centres, including ‘L'empire des enfants’. The project also aims to strengthen the skills and exchange practices of those involved in child protection. The aim is to promote cultural mediation, artistic education and activities that enable children to express themselves in different ways. Thanks to the support of the Air France Foundation, nearly 70 workshops are held throughout the school year.
