Happy Book Truck: a mobile library for easier access to reading

The Toutes à l’école association provides a high level of schooling to the most underprivileged young girls. It set up the Happy Chandara school 12 km from Phnom Penh, which caters to over 1,300 pupils. They are supported throughout their education and their university or vocational training, through to their first job. The project supported by the Air France Foundation involves purchasing and fitting out a van as a mobile library. The aim is to enhance and expand the education and early-learning work through reading outside the campus. The van visits public schools in the evening and travels to isolated villages on the weekends, where some children are still deprived of schooling due to the distances and poverty. This scheme provides fun and educational activities for those still learning to read, as well as books in French, Khmer and English. The partnership with the Air France Foundation began in 2012.
