Reintegration of former child soldiers, sport therapy programme in Cali (West region)
The WAPA International association combats the recruitment and use of children in armed conflicts and works to reintegrate them within strengthened communities. It also conducts awareness and information campaigns about the issue of child soldiers to prevent their recruitment. The current project, supported by the Air France Foundation since 2022, is aimed at 30 young former child soldiers housed in a reintegration centre managed by Ciudad Don Bosco in Cali, and for 25 out-of-school youngsters who visit the centre during the day. They are all aged 15 to 18. WAPA International implements a psychosocial support strategy, including sport therapy. This project is carried out by an interdisciplinary team comprised of psychologists and sports professionals.
