INFORMATION ON FLIGHT AF662 OF OCTOBER 1, 2024

Air France constantly monitors geopolitical developments in the areas it serves and flies over, to ensure the highest levels of flight safety and security.

On October 1, 2024, information identified a forthcoming attack on Israel by Iran, involving the launch of ballistic missiles.

As a result, and without waiting for instructions from the Iraqi authorities, Air France decided to suspend the overflight of the country's airspace by its aircraft from 5:00 p.m. universal time (i.e. 7:00 p.m. Paris time).

The airline's aircraft were already avoiding Israeli, Lebanese and Iranian airspace. Overflight of Iraqi airspace was limited to a specific corridor used by all airlines.

As a result:

- Flight AF218, from Paris CDG to Mumbai (India), turned around and returned to Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

- Flight AF257, from Singapore to Paris-CDG, landed in Delhi (India) to refuel, as avoiding the region meant a longer journey time.

- Flight AF662, from Paris CDG to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), was flying over southern Iraq when the Iranian attack began, at around 4.45pm Universal Time. At the time, Iraqi airspace was open, and aircraft from other airlines were also in the area. The Air France flight left the country's airspace shortly before 5:00 pm, and it was not until 5:56 pm universal time that the Iraqi authorities officially closed this airspace to air traffic.

Air France reiterates that the safety of its customers and crews is its top priority.
