Since 1980, Air France has been a partner and the official carrier of the Cannes Film Festival. A longstanding partnership which illustrates the Company’s commitment to the world of cinema and the promotion of film.

In September 1946, when the International Cannes Film Festival first opened in response to the Venice Film Festival, Air France was enjoying a renaissance. With a modernized fleet, the Company was redeploying its network. The small airport in Cannes hadn’t been a part of this since 1939, so Nice was the nearest airport. But Air France was soon asked, along with the French railways, to transport members of the jury and film stars. The Company enjoyed an excellent reputation with these VIP customers, who weren’t yet known as the "jet set". Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Alfred Hitchcock, etc. Stars posed on the jetways, on their way to a screening, between two film sets ... Air France became a part of the movie family. It carried the teams, took part in certain productions, such as Aux yeux du souvenir by Jean Delannoy in 1948, showed movies on board as from 1966 and was involved in the filming, providing aircraft, crew and technical advisers with onscreen visibility in return.

A partnership celebrated with our customers

This year, to celebrate 36 years of partnership between Air France and the Cannes Film Festival, the Company has come up with “Cinema to Go”, a unique service so that passengers can watch or finish watching a film from the ‘Cannes Festival’ selection on board, at home, on their tablet, smartphone or PC, with a gift code sent by e-mail, valid after landing.
