L’Empire des enfants in Dakar provides comprehensive care for boys aged 5 to 14 living on the streets, victims of exploitation through forced begging, lost or separated from their families.
The youngsters take part in socio-educational activities to facilitate their social, professional and family reintegration. The association provides psychosocial support. It organises activities linked to education and environmental protection in rural areas at its branch in Popenguine, where it takes children on breakaway trips called "classes vertes".
The project, supported by the Air France Foundation since 2014, introduces nearly 200 children to waste management and processing, which they recycle at recovery workshops. The children are also discovering renewable energies thanks to a biodigester to use organic waste in the production of gas and digestate to fertilize the garden soil. The aim is to raise children's awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and preserving the planet, as well as helping them to better prepare for their future once they are reintegrated into their rural environment. All these means will help to reduce poverty by offering employment opportunities and economic development for local communities.
