Children and young people in serious difficulties
Cameroon
Creation of an educational support centre for disadvantaged children near Yaoundé.
The association works with 270 children aged between 3 and 18 in Cameroon and 90 in Mali. It provides them with long-term support throughout their time in school, right through to their professional integration. One of the challenges facing primary education in Cameroon is the fight against school drop-out. The lack of teachers and premises is making it more difficult to create a stable, high-quality education system. The Air France Foundation is supporting the construction of a school centre 50km from Yaoundé to provide after-school tutoring for children during the week and at weekends. Ultimately, the centre will train older children in agriculture and renewable energy. The centre will have classrooms and computer rooms, an infirmary for the children and their families, a sports area, an agricultural area for training young people in ecological agriculture and a kitchen. The agricultural area will be used to prepare the centre's meals.
