To facilitate the professional integration of local residents, notably from the area’s priority neighbourhoods, Roissy Pays de France and Air France signed a partnership agreement on Thursday 5 March. A programme of common actions aimed at providing residents and employment agencies in the agglomeration (Pôle Emploi (national job centre), Mission Locale (schemes promoting the social and professional integration of young people), Maisons de l’Emploi (regional job centres) and Espaces Emploi (local employment centres)) with clear information on local job opportunities with Air France and other airport-based companies. After the signing, to celebrate the diverse cooperation between Air France and the local communities, elected representatives and Air France, Roissy-en-France and Roissy Pays de France officials will unveil a company Airbus A320 named “Roissy-en-France”.
Promoting jobs in the air transport sector – a future challenge for the agglomeration and an objective shared by Air France and Roissy Pays de France
While young people and residents of the agglomeration’s priority neighbourhoods may be unfamiliar with the existence of career opportunities in aviation, Roissy Pays de France and Air France are already supporting a number of joint initiatives aimed at promoting the job opportunities offered by Air France. On Thursday 7 February, the company’s recruitment and selection department was present at the Employment and Training Convention in Gonesse, where it received over 30 applications for work/study and trainee positions. “By signing this agreement, Roissy Pays de France is playing a more significant role in informing residents about the different initiatives conducted by the Agglomeration and its partners to promote the inclusion of young people from priority neighbourhoods and populations with limited employment prospects. We are delighted to sign this partnership with Air France, a key player in the economic dynamism of the Greater Roissy Area”, explains Patrick Renaud, Chairman of Roissy Pays de France Urban Area Community.
Air France’s commitment within the scope of the agreement covers other complementary aspects, such as -
- The implementation of measures aimed at providing Roissy Pays de France residents with clear information about jobs in aviation (access to films, digital content, job descriptions and documents showcasing professions in aviation). This component will notably be managed by AirEmploi, a non-profit body created at Air France’s initiative regularly intervening in local junior and high schools to present job opportunities at the airport and in the aviation industry.
- Increased cooperation between the agglomeration and Air France in the area of employment and training, notably with regard to apprenticeships with the AFMAé apprentice training centre for careers in aviation, welcoming 700 apprentices at the Bonneuil training centre in France since September 2019.
- Professional integration through training, the agglomeration and the company supporting the not-for-profit grouping JEREMY’s actions in support of young unemployed people from the Roissy and Orly areas over the past 20 years. Created by Air France and based at CDG, JEREMY selects and trains job seekers lacking formal qualifications in partnership with local operators, public employment financing bodies (Pôle Emploi, OPCO, Region, Départements) and employers based at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport (Air France, Europe Handling Group, Samsic Sûreté/Hubsafe, ACNA, City Service, Servair, Areas). The development of the Air France and Roissy Pays de France area partnership should thus allow a greater number of job seekers to benefit from JEREMY’s support in finding employment in the aviation sector (with a permanent or fixed-term contract, or work/study contract). As a reminder, out of the 4,000 people hired in 2019, 50% live in the départements where Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports are based (permanent or fixed-term contracts and work/study trainees).
An ambitious partnership between the agglomeration and the leading private employer in the Paris region
“This partnership illustrates Air France’s ambition to increasingly contribute to the economic development of regions where the company is present, and notably in the Greater Roissy area – by legitimizing these actions, our group is reasserting its role as local partner supporting job creation projects and entrepreneurial initiatives”, stated Anne-Sophie Le Lay, Secretary-General of Air France and the Air France-KLM group. “The relocation of the CFA Apprentice Training Centre for careers in aviation to the Roissy Pays de France area in September 2019 reflects our commitment to employment. In Bonneuil, France, every year, hundreds of apprentices will train for jobs at the airport and in the aviation sector before subsequently joining Air France, the leading private employer in the Paris region, and other companies based at the airport.” “Every additional million passengers represents 5,000 new direct and indirect jobs in the Greater Roissy area”, added Patrick Renaud. “To allow local residents to fully benefit from this dynamic, Air France is a vital partner, with whom we are delighted to strengthen our cooperation”.
As part of its long-standing commitment to promoting careers guidance, employment and training in the Greater Roissy area, in 2020, Air France will welcome over 1,300 new work/study trainees within its teams. With 40,000 staff in the Paris region, including 32,000 at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, the Air France group is the leading private employer in the region. The company employs over 90% of its staff in France, primarily around its bases at Charles de Gaulle and Orly. About the Roissy Pays de France Urban Area Community
The Roissy Pays de France Urban Area Community, created on 1 January 2016, groups together 42 municipalities in the French départements of Val d’Oise (95) and Seine-et-Marne (77), and has a population of some 352,000 inhabitants. The 2nd largest agglomeration in France in terms of population, Roissy Pays de France spans an area 3.5 times the size of Paris.
The Urban Area Community stands out for its diversity, both in terms of population and urban density, with heavy urban development in the South (notably around the Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris – Le Bourget airports) and vast agricultural areas to the North and East.
Patrick Renaud, Chairman of the Agglomeration, heads an executive committee comprising 15 vice-presidents and 10 delegate counsellors. The community council has in total 105 elected representatives. Roissy Pays de France exercises 21 powers. As a project area, the Urban Area Community supports an ambitious policy in terms of economic growth, transport, land and housing development, urban policy and sustainable development. Cultural and sport and leisure development, heritage preservation, water supply and sanitation facilities and waste management also feature among the priorities of Roissy Pays de France.
