For nearly 20 years, Air France has been committed to gender diversity and professional equality between men and women, in particular by promoting women’s access to all professions. Aware that the diversity of talent is a major asset for any company, Air France is careful to promote the skills, know-how and professional attitude of all its people.

A voluntary commitment to feminizing professions

On Friday 8th March 2024, Air France is taking part in the 3rd edition of the “Feminizing professions” event organized by AIREMPLOI, an association of which Air France is a founding member.

This initiative is the result of a partnership between Air Emploi, Air France, Airbus, the ADP Group, Ariane Group, Dassault Aviation, Transavia, the French Air Force, the French Navy and professional federations. The 2024 edition, organised at the ADP Group head office, is enabling 100 secondary school girls and students from the region to meet more than fifty civilian and military professionals at workshops and round tables presenting the reality of careers and possible career paths in the aviation and space sectors.

Air France’s commitment within the Feminizing airline professions association is part of a long-term approach. For example, last month, in conjunction with AIREMPLOI, secondary school girls from the Paul-Éluard school in Garges-lès-Gonesse (Val-d’Oise) and high school students from Louise-Michel de Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) had the chance to learn more about how an A350 aircraft works in an exchange with professionals, including Cyrille Erard, a pilot with over 15 years’ experience, and Manon Lemarié, a mechanic.

This initiative is part of a drive to increase gender diversity in aviation professions.

Un engagement continu pour la diversité et l’inclusion

These initiatives demonstrate Air France's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion within the company.

In January 2022, Air France signed its 6th three-year professional equality agreement, which sets out concrete measures to support women in positions of responsibility and increase the proportion of women managers and on management committees. The agreement also aims to ensure equality, particularly in terms of pay, improve working conditions for parents, combat sexism and sexual harassment and support women who are victims of violence. It demonstrates Air France's determination to continue raising awareness of diversity and inclusion among staff and managers.

In 2024, Air France plans to recruit almost 1,000 new pilots, aeronautical technicians or engineers, IT specialists, logisticians, etc. All the procedures have been designed to give women and men equal access to the job opportunities on offer.

Key figures related to gender equality (at 31/12/2022):

    • 17,378 women at Air France, i.e. 45.5% of the company's workforce
    • 356 women pilots, i.e. 9.2% of the pilot workforce
    • 8,161 female flight attendants, i.e. 66.1% of cabin crew
    • 32% of women in IT jobs
    • 38% of women in cargo operations
    • 14.7% of women in aircraft maintenance, a figure which has doubled in 10 years.
